Start with consumption, not just the bill amount

A useful solar enquiry begins with a recent electricity bill. Share your monthly units as well as the total amount, because charges and consumption are different things. Where possible, gather several months of bills to show seasonal changes. A home with air conditioning may use considerably more electricity in summer than in cooler months. Tell your solar provider when you use the most power, whether that is during working hours, in the evening or across the full day.

Check how much of your roof is actually usable

The total roof area is only a starting point. Water tanks, stair rooms, neighbouring buildings, shade and access paths can reduce the space available. Alif uses approximately 100 sq ft per kW as an early planning guide; a 5 kW system may therefore need around 500 sq ft of usable area. This is not a final engineering layout. Module dimensions, tilt, spacing, structural conditions and maintenance access must be assessed before capacity is agreed.

Decide whether your priority is savings or backup

Rooftop solar and battery backup solve related but different needs. An on-grid system is commonly considered for daytime generation and reducing grid purchases. A standard on-grid inverter does not keep a home powered during a grid outage. If you need essential appliances to continue running, discuss a compatible battery-backed arrangement. Make a list of the appliances, their power ratings and the hours of backup you want so the storage requirement can be assessed separately.

Ask for a complete scope of work

A good proposal should explain panel capacity, inverter capacity, the component models, mounting structure, electrical protection, cable allowances and installation scope. It should also identify costs that sit outside the quoted package, such as additional civil work or application-related charges. Ask who coordinates testing, documents and handover. A clear scope makes it easier to compare alternatives without relying only on the lowest total.

Allow time for the complete project

Alif’s initial planning range is around 6–10 weeks for the overall process, subject to project requirements, material availability, site readiness and approvals. Smaller projects can be completed sooner; larger or more complex projects may take longer. Installation work on the roof is only one part of that sequence. Metering and any applicable subsidy process should be discussed before treating the proposed date as a confirmed commissioning date.

Take a useful first step

Use the solar calculator to explore an indicative capacity and cost, then request a site-specific proposal. Share your location, electricity bill and rooftop details with Alif Enterprises. We provide residential and C&I solar solutions across West Bengal, with assistance on applicable approvals and maintenance options for ongoing care. A conversation based on your actual property is more useful than selecting a system from a headline price alone.
